Bringing Traditional Chinese Medicine into the 21st Century – Lecture/Webinar Series
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is one of the oldest and most comprehensive healing systems in the world. Developing and refining over the last 5,000 years, TCM brings potent wisdom, many practical applications and a unique perspective on health and healing.
The challenge TCM faces in the modern world is the ability to communicate its wisdom and understanding in a way that includes and expands on our present level of scientific sophistication. This communication gap has made it difficult for TCM to be recognized and accepted by the scientific medical community and often prevents many patients from accessing the benefits of literally thousands of years of clinical experience.
This series of four presentations will help students, practitioners and anyone interested in Chinese medicine see it’s concepts and principles through the lens of a microscope, through the perception of shamanic healing traditions and finally through the telescope of quantum physics.
Does Qi Really Exist?
In the first presentation the concept of Qi as a literal substance will explored and redefined in a way that includes western anatomy and physiology, the shamanic traditions of indigenous healers and some mysteries that science has yet to explain.
What Keeps Us Healthy?
In the second presentation the five fundamental systems or Five Elements of Chinese medicine will be explored with the 21st century medical models of physiology and pathology, basically what keeps us healthy and what can go wrong. The wisdom and effectiveness of a holistic systems based approach to healing will be compared with the diagnosis and disease management protocols of modern allopathic medicine.
What Makes Us Unhealthy?
In the third presentation the external and internal pathogenic influences and pathological emotional states (the influences that make us sick) will be explored and verified with leading edge medical research. The nature and limits of our instincts and our adaptability as human beings will provide some insight on how to improve our health and our lives.
How Does Acupuncture Really Work?
In the final presentation the therapeutic benefits of acupuncture will be explored, redefined and made even more subtle and energetically profound. Some aspects of how acupuncture works are completely common sense and other aspects demand the coherent concentration of a Shaman and an experiential understanding of the way the universe works.
